Solidarity HealthShare Eligibility: What You Need to Qualify

Solidarity HealthShare eligibility is based on shared Christian beliefs, personal lifestyle commitments, and health-related qualifications. As a Catholic-inspired health care sharing ministry, Solidarity brings together members who agree to specific moral, ethical, and health standards to participate in medical cost sharing.

This guide outlines who qualifies, what standards apply, and how pre-existing conditions are handled in 2026.

Eligibility Overview

Solidarity HealthShare is structured as a voluntary health care sharing ministry rooted in Christian principles and the moral teachings of the Catholic Church. Membership is open to individuals and families who affirm the ministry’s Statement of Shared Beliefs and agree to follow its Sharing Guidelines.

Applicants must meet religious, lifestyle, and health-related standards to become and remain eligible for sharing.

Membership is approved once the application and available health information have been reviewed and accepted.

Core Requirements

To become a member, applicants must meet the following standards:

Faith Alignment and Share Beliefs

Members must affirm Solidarity’s Statement of Shared Beliefs, which includes:

  • Recognition of personal rights as originating from God
  • Commitment to religious freedom and moral responsibility
  • Accept the principle of solidarity: supporting fellow members in times of medical need
  • Agree with moral and ethical teachings consistent with the Catholic tradition

Applicants formally agree to these beliefs during the application process.

You do not have to be a Catholic to join Solidarity Healthshare. Membership is open to individuals who agree to the ministry’s guidelines and moral framework, even if they are not Catholic.

Healthy Lifestyle Requirements

Because medical costs are shared among members, Solidarity requires participants to maintain a lifestyle consistent with stewardship of personal health.

Members must:

  • Avoid abuse of food, tobacco, alcohol, and medication.
  • Abstain from illegal drug use
  • Avoid misuse of prescription medications.
  • Follow biblical principles regarding alcohol consumption.
  • Intentionally incorporate exercise and balanced nutrition into daily life

The ministry views health stewardship as both a personal responsibility and an obligation to fellow members.

Failure to maintain these standards may affect eligibility for continued participation.

Residency

Applicants must be legal residents of the United States. Additional state-level considerations may apply depending on local regulations.

Health-Related Eligibility

Solidarity HealthShare eligibility also includes review of current and past medical conditions.

Pre-Existing Conditions

Applicants with pre-existing medical conditions may:

  • Be accepted with limitations on sharing related to that condition, or
  • Be enrolled in a health improvement program if the condition can be improved through lifestyle changes.

Some active or high-cost medical conditions may affect initial eligibility, particularly if projected expenses would significantly strain community resources.

If a condition is accepted as pre-existing, sharing for that condition may be limited according to the Sharing Guidelines.

Financial and Administrative Requirements

To enroll, members must:

  • Pay a one-time application fee (currently $135)
  • Select an Annual Unshared Amount (AUA)
  • Pay monthly contributions based on:
  • Age
  • Household size
  • Chosen AUA level

Members are responsible for eligible medical expenses up to their selected AUA each membership year. Once the AUA is met, additional eligible expenses may be shared among members.

How Membership Approval Works

All applications are reviewed based on:

  • Affirmation of shared beliefs
  • Lifestyle disclosures
  • Medical history information

Decisions are made in consultation with the applicant using the most complete information available at the time of review.

Because Solidarity operates as a voluntary sharing community with finite resources, membership is not automatically guaranteed.

Who May Qualify Most Easily

Solidarity HealthShare eligibility may be most straightforward for:

  • Individuals aligned with Christian moral teachings
  • Households committed to maintaining a healthy lifestyle
  • Applicants without unmanaged or high-cost active medical conditions
  • Members are comfortable with faith-based health care sharing

Compare Eligibility Requirements Before Applying

Eligibility standards vary across health care sharing ministries, and include pre-existing conditions, lifestyle requirements, and faith commitments. Before enrolling, compare programs and carefully review Solidarity HealthShare eligibility to determine which options align with your household’s beliefs and health profile.
